Explore pathways. Build confidence. Find your place in STE(A)M.

Preparing for a STE(A)M career

RISE helps teens explore STE(A)M pathways, build confidence and develop meaningful connections that support future goals. This free program reinforces that there is no single path into science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, and that individual interests, strengths and lived experiences all have a place in these fields. Through hands-on projects, real-world challenges and supportive mentorship, participants expand self-awareness, strengthen problem-solving skills and begin to imagine futures shaped by curiosity and purpose. Gain exposure to both traditional and nontraditional STE(A)M careers in an environment designed to encourage growth and belonging. Activities connect learning to real-world issues while building confidence, self-efficacy and clarity about next steps.

How it works

Choose the level of engagement that fits individual interests and schedules. The RISE Teen Program offers two participation pathways.

Structured experience

Commit to a 12-week session focused on deeper learning and leadership development. Participants engage in projects aligned to their interests while progressing through discovery, applied STE(A)M learning and opportunities that may lead to internships. Sessions connect to civic engagement efforts, field trips and youth-led meetups across Chicago. Participants may also volunteer alongside staff and community partners to facilitate STE(A)M activities and build leadership skills.

Drop-in program

Explore STE(A)M in a flexible format. Teens work independently or in small groups on hands-on and digital projects while forming relationships with peers and adult mentors. This option supports curiosity, collaboration and community without requiring a long-term commitment.
