Watch monarch butterflies take flight from the Museum Garden!
Monarch Butterfly Release
Friday, Aug. 28, 2026: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Watch Griffin MSI volunteers and Master Gardeners as they tag and release monarch butterflies outside in the Museum Garden. The tagging will allow the monarchs to be tracked once they arrive at their winter home in the south. When a tagged monarch is located there during the winter, the tag will confirm where they began their journey, contributing important data on their migration patterns.
Witness this unique event and take part in garden-themed STE(A)M activities in our Museum Garden. Included with General Admission on Aug. 28.
