Teachers enhance their capacity to integrate Next Generation Science Standards into their instruction across grade levels.

Learn about implementing NGSS

Teaching three-dimensional science in alignment with the NGSS represents a big shift in practice — with a huge pay off for students and teachers! To make those shifts as educators, you must first be able to make sense of the standards, understand how they’re organized and experience what a standards-aligned lesson looks like in action. Come spend a couple days digging into the NGSS and walk away with answers to the questions: "What does the NGSS ask of students?” and “How do I support student learning with the NGSS?"

Registration is now open for 2025-26 workshop dates!

Note: Foundations of NGSS will now be a pre-requisite for two Summer/Fall 2026 offerings: Planning for Success with the NGSS, a workshop focused on how to use Amplify/Skyline in a way that truly honors the NGSS; and an updated offering of our multi-day course Air: The Atmosphere Inside and Outside Your Classroom.

About the workshop

This two-day course, designed for science teachers, curriculum specialists or administrators for K-8th grade who have little familiarity with NGSS expectations for science teaching, allows participants to:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the three-dimensional, phenomena-driven instructional approach to teaching, including the shifts laid out in A Framework for K-12 Science Education.
  • Experience, and reflect on, three-dimensional phenomenon-based instruction that requires sense-making via science practices to meaningfully support their students in this type of learning.
  • Understand and analyze student coherence within their curriculum in order to better teach grade level appropriate science concepts in alignment with NGSS.
  • Have opportunities to build confidence teaching the NGSS alongside a community of science teachers.

This workshop is ideal for those new to the Next Generation Science Standards and beneficial to those who have been working with NGSS for years but desire a refresher course on the expectations the NGSS lay out for science teaching and learning.
