Foundations of NGSS
Build confidence teaching science that makes sense to students.
Learning about implementing NGSS
Strengthen your understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and design instruction that helps students think, question and make sense of the world. In Foundations of NGSS, you will unpack what the standards ask of students and learn how to plan lessons that support meaningful science learning across grade levels. Explore the structure and intent of NGSS, experience three-dimensional instruction in action and see how sense-making drives deeper understanding.

About the workshop
This two-day course is designed for educators who want a strong foundation in NGSS-aligned science teaching. Through shared experiences and reflection, participants explore what high-quality NGSS instruction looks like and how it supports student learning. During the workshop, participants will:
- Build a clear understanding of three-dimensional science instruction and the shifts outlined in "A Framework for K–12 Science Education"
- Experience NGSS-aligned instruction and reflect on how students make sense of ideas through science practices
- Analyze curriculum coherence to better support grade-level science learning
- Build confidence teaching the NGSS alongside a collaborative community of educators
This workshop is ideal for educators new to the Next Generation Science Standards and valuable for those seeking a refresher on expectations for science teaching and learning.
