Unlock what drives students to learn.

About the workshop

Student Motivation and Engagement helps educators understand what truly fuels student engagement and how to design learning experiences that inspire ownership and purpose. This full-day workshop offers practical, research-informed strategies that support motivation across grade levels and subject areas. Through collaborative work time and guided reflection, participants leave with concrete plans they can apply immediately in their classrooms and learning communities. This interactive experience explores how motivation and engagement function in real school settings. Educators examine why some strategies fall flat while others spark sustained interest and effort. The session centers on internal motivation and personal relevance as powerful drivers of student learning. During the workshop, participants will:

  • Plan or revise lessons to increase student motivation and engagement using provided resources
  • Understand how learning experiences that support internal motivation lead to deeper engagement
  • Recognize the role of personal relevance in strengthening motivation and participation

The strategies explored are applicable across disciplines and grade levels and are valuable for educators who also support professional learning in their schools or districts.
